Dancing on the edge

Published 3 months ago • 1 min read

Reader I dare you.

Close your eyes and think of an edge, an infinity pool, an astounding view or or height, the top of the rollercoaster. Place yourself there and feel your breathing, feel your hands, are they clammy? What’s going through your mind? Is it wonder or worry?

That’s the edge.

An edge can be scary and frightening or enlightening and juicy; the perfect thrill.

That happens when you operate at your highest potential in your career. You can feel the wind in your hair, and you look beyond the initial veneer of buildings to the hills, the ocean, and the next edge. You are excited, passionate and moving through the World with a sense of ease; that doesn’t mean you are eternally confident or don’t worry from time to time. It means you know what to do when it happens; you don’t freak out about freaking out, you handle it like anything else on your to-do list. You know it’s a part of the edge and accept it as a consequence but don’t allow it to derail you. You know the edge confirms you are precisely where you need to be; playing, dancing, heck… frolicking on the edges of your career.

Come back to me.

These edges come disguised as the job you never considered, the department they created just for you and your skill set, the job offer from the punching-above-your-weight application you sent off last week, not to mention the promotion, pay-rise or open arms you find in a new industry or environment.

Edge.

You can see it, you have it. Tap into it.
